The margarita glass is a 3 piece mould comprising of 2 sides and a base. I hope to join 2 glasses together to create the main body for my composition. The theme of my compositions will be mechanical abstract machines/machine parts. I have researched artists who also go along these themes. The one most like the ideas in my mind’s eye are by Von Venhuzien a German artist.
He works in clay and also sometimes combines with other materials like wood and metal. He manages to not show the obvious qualities of the clay; whilst the work does not look metal or machine produced it does have a sense of being mechanical and inventive. I like the quirky fun nature of Venhuzien’s work, he makes work by throwing, press-moulding and hand building. The colours, patterns and presentation of the work have an also most childlike appeal. Venhuzien says he thinks of himself as a kind of toy inventor also. There is a link to a couple of websites showing his work/bio in my list.
